Marco Asensio is in high demand

Phone hasn't stopped ringing asking about youngster

Real Madrid have had to deal with interest from right across Europe regarding their 20-year-old attacking midfielder Marco Asenio.

No player at the Champions League winners has been pursued so hotly, with the club having fielded more than 20 enquiries already this summer.

The situation is similar to that last summer but the difference this year in the calibre of club looking to take the former Mallorca man on loan; already Madrid have had enquiries from Champions League clubs in England and Germany.

Villarreal, who are a play-off away from the group stage of Europe's premier club competition are another, and there has been further interest from the likes of Valencia and Espanyol, where he spent last season on loan.

A return to that destination looks unlikely with the club hoping to send Asenio out to a club competing at a higher level this time round.

Asenio, who is under contract for another four years and is held in high esteem at all levels at Madrid, would like to stay and force his way into the first team, having explicitly stated this both in private and in public.

Zinedine Zidane is a keen admirer of his, considering him to be a player capable of lining up in a midfield three and also further up the pitch.

No decision will be taken until after the European Super Cup clash with Sevilla on August 9th, leaving him ample opportunity to make his case both on the field and in training, but the feeling is that the sort of first team football available elsewhere can only benefit the player's progression.
